Overview

The College of Criminal Justice is the banners the flagship program of the Philippine College of Criminology. Today, the Bachelor of Science in Criminology program is complemented by two allied programs — Bachelor of Forensic Science and the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Management — to strengthen further PCCR’s brand of Criminal Justice Education.

    Bachelor of Science in Criminology

    Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BS Crim)  is a four-year degree program that studies crime and the various agencies of justice roles as they operate and react to crime, criminals, and victims.

    The Criminology program aims to provide the community with professionally competent and morally upright graduates who can deliver efficient and effective services in crime prevention, detection, and investigation, law enforcement, public safety, custody and rehabilitation of offenders, criminological research, among others.

    Graduates of the program possess the required knowledge, skills, attitude, and values necessary to address the problems of criminality in the country. They match the character and competence to meet the global challenges in criminal justice.

    The B.S. in Criminology program is a Level II Re-accredited Program awarded by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). The program is handled by faculty members who are industry practitioners and academic experts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, all of which have completed aligned post-graduate degrees and continuously undergo training worldwide. Students use PCCR’s library and forensic laboratories learning resources, the most extensive among all higher education institutions offering the Criminology program in the Philippines.

    PCCR has consistently been recognized as a top-performing institution in the Professional Regulation Commission’s Criminologists’ Licensure Examination, with its graduates often clinching multiple spots among the top 10 board takers.

    Bachelor of Forensic Science

    Bachelor of Forensic Science (BFSci) is a four-year non-board academic program that deals with the application of scientific principles and techniques to the legal process in support of the proper administration of justice. BFSci is under the cluster of Criminal Justice Education (CJE) by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) in the Philippines. This course is open to fresh graduates of Senior High School and ALS. Also open to degree holders of any course.

    Based on the CHED Memo no. 48 series of 2012, the majority of the subjects are criminalistics or forensics-related. This includes the disciplines of forensic photography, forensic chemistry, forensic toxicology, forensic medicine, forensic document examination, forensic dactyloscopy, forensic anthropology, DNA analysis, Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), Fundamentals of Criminal Investigation (FCI) and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), forensic odontology.

    COMMON QUESTIONS OF 2ND COURSERS/SHIFTERS

    ?Do I have to enroll in the general subjects I finished in my first course? NO, the subjects may be carried to your new course IF the descriptions match with the current forensic science curriculum of PCCR.

    ?If I am a graduate of a four-year course, how many years I can be able to finish BFSci? Generally, it ranges from 2 to 2.5 years. The exact duration to finish BFSci depends on the result of the evaluation of your finished subjects against the current curriculum of BFSci of PCCR.

    EMPLOYABILITY/CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

    a BFSci graduate may be qualified to be employed in any of the Law Enforcement agencies like the Philippine National Police (PNP, especially crime laboratories), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other similar agencies PROVIDED the graduate possesses ANY of the ff appropriate eligibilities:
    1) National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Entrance Exam
    2) Board/Bar Passer (RA No. 1080)
    3) Civil Service Professional
    4) CSC Honor Graduate Eligibility – Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Suma Cum Laude (Presidential Decree No. 907)
    5) CSC Fire Officer Exam (FOE) for BFP, or
    6. CSC Jail Officer Exam (JOE) for BJMP.

    BFSci Graduates may also be employed in the following fields:
    1. Scientific crime detection
    2. Law Enforcement
    3. Forensic Science education
    4. Foreign or International agencies (e.g. UN and EU)
    5. Research/ Analysis/ Evaluation/ of Forensic evidence in Courts of Law.

    BFSci Graduates may also pursue careers in the following areas of specialization:

    Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Management

    Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security MAnagement (BS ISM) involves the study and application of the principles of security. It prepares its graduates to assume SUPERVISORY ROLES, and involves the study of the principles and methods of Risk Management and the applicable interventions that confronts all types of human conditions and endeavors. It also includes the study and practice of the means of protecting resources from loss or damage.

    PROGRAM GOALS
    The BSISM program aims to provide its graduates with the following:
    1. Strong foundation of fundamental theories of industrial security and its administration and understanding of constitutional guarantees of security;
    2. Ability to prepare programs for the best approaches and practical applications of these fundamental theories and concerns;
    3. A comprehensive knowledge of the diverse issues and concerns affecting security in the industrial setting;
    4. Competencies in the design of basic security systems and their operations and functions such as but not limited to CORPORATE and ORGANIZATIONAL SECURITY, INTERNAL OFFICE SECURITY, PHYSICAL SECURITY, BUSINESS AND COMMERCIAL SECURITY, EXECUTIVE PROTECTION, INTELLIGENCE and INVESTIGATION as well as SECURITY FOR VITAL INFRASTRUCTURES such as but not limited to SEAPORTS, AIRPORTS, and the like.
    5. Knowledge, skills and attitude and values for professional careers in INDUSTRIAL SECURITY MANAGEMENT and the practice of security profession such:
    – Security requirements of various installation of vital importance
    – Private and public security and loss prevention systems and the role of industrial security management in their operations.
    – Executive protection and SECURITY to HIGH-PROFILE INDIVIDUALS.
    – Information Technology security, and
    – Crime prevention and investigation and the law enforcement as provided under existing laws (CMO 06 s. 2018).

    EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
    Graduates of BSISM program shall have the competencies to become Officers/ Managers/ Administrators/ of the following:
    1. CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURES (Energy sector, water utilities, information and communication, transportation, banking and finance, public health, emergency services, agriculture and food, manufacturing, government services, real state and strategic commercial centers, and religious and cultural sites and facilities)

    3. CORPORATE SECURITY (Asset Protection, Company Security, Credit and Fraud Investigator, Guard Force Services Manager, Health, Safety and Envi Security, Insurance Investigator, Loss Prevention, Risk Control, Security Investigator, Accident and Traffic Investigator, Security Compliance)
    4. ALLIED FIELDS (Criminology, Forensic Science, National Security Administration, Law, Public Safety, Correctional Administration, Management, etc.)

    BSISM PROGRAM OUTCOMES
    The graduates of BSIS program are expected to have the ability to:
    1. Conduct cost-effective security survey, audit, and inspection for private and public institutions;
    2. Conduct risk and impact analysis and loss event profiling for enterprises and state-owned establishments;
    3. Develop and implement competitive intelligence, security and corporate investigation programs;
    4. Plan and manage any form of contingencies and emergencies and contain crisis;
    5. Formulate and implement security management plans and programs including business continuity plan and management; and
    6. Organize, develop and operate a security guard force and private detective agency.
